“Sometimes things just work out.” Mary Lynn Stone, President of Century 21 New Millennium, was talking about a transition that is happening over the next few weeks in our upscale One Loudoun office in Ashburn, Va. It began when Branch Leader Jim Carrier announced that he is retiring to his place in North Carolina to become a gentleman farmer.
Jim had done a super job for several years leading our Alexandria office, so when we needed a proven leader to head up the new high-tech location at One Loudoun, Stone and NM’s CEO Todd Hetherington went to him with the challenge. “And he knocked the cover off the ball again,” Hetherington added. “Jim has been an incredible asset to our leadership team. His passion and energy show through in everything he does.” Finding someone who could step into that role with minimal or no disruption was critical.

Getting back to how sometimes things just work out, one of the top teams at One Loudoun is led by Steve Dunleavey, who left the corporate world a few years ago for a career in real estate sales and service. He has done well and is quick to acknowledge how his regular coaching sessions with Carrier have helped him set and reach production goals. It was during those sessions that Carrier became aware of Steve’s desire to grow into a more significant leadership role within the organization. One thing led to another and they eventually approached NM execs with their ideas about a gradual transition. It made a lot of sense. Dunleavey’s corporate experience and grasp of what it takes to be very successful will work well together as he takes on the responsibilities of branch leadership in One Loudoun at the end of January.
