December 18, 2017, was a big day for two local real estate companies as CENTURY 21 Gawen Realty and their associates became part of the CENTURY 21 New Millennium family of real estate service providers. It just “made sense,” said NM’s CEO, Todd Hetherington. For nearly 50 years, since 1969, the Gawen name has represented professional excellence throughout the Westover section of Arlington, one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Northern Virginia. When Nicholas (Nick) Lagos became the Owner and Principal Broker thirty years ago, he committed to maintaining a high quality, service-first standard.

CENTURY 21 New Millennium, which has been recognized five times as the No. 1 CENTURY 21® firm in the world, has 850-plus agents in 20 locations throughout Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. We have always kept a sharp eye out for strategic growth locations. So, when Hetherington and NM President Mary Lynn Stone had the opportunity to extend New Millennium’s brick-and-mortar presence into Arlington, where our agents were already selling lots of houses, they didn’t hesitate. Ms. Stone said that she, “looks forward to seeing our sign go up in Arlington,” and added that “It was an honor to have the original broker/owner, Mr. Perry Gawen, on hand Monday for the initial onboarding of their agents into our New Millennium system. It signaled a new future for CENTURY 21 in Arlington. It was a special day for him and for all the rest of us as well.”

Nick’s reputation for excellence and professionalism in the real estate community is widespread. In addition to being in the top one percent of CENTURY 21 sales associates in the country, he is a life-member top producer with the Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS®, where he has served as member and chairperson on several of the Association’s committees. He will serve as Secretary-Treasurer of the 11,000-member association in 2018.

He recalls getting a call many years ago from a new local broker congratulating him for having received the highest Quality Service award within the CENTURY 21 system. The calling broker aspired to provide that same level of customer care for his own company’s clients and asked Lagos for advice. The younger broker went on to win the Pinnacle Quality Service Award the following year and for 20-plus years thereafter. The company later became CENTURY 21 New Millennium, and the not-so-young broker is still here. He was present Monday to welcome his early mentor into the NM family. It’s a small world.

New Millennium has already started the change process with new branch leadership and brokerage supervision. As an Associate Broker, Lagos will be part of New Millennium’s sales staff, working with buyers and sellers while growing his property management business. Fortunately for all of us, he can do all of that at CENTURY 21 New Millennium…and he doesn’t have to move from the great location where he has been for the past 30 years.
